Excellent communal harmony exists in Bangladesh: Adviser

DHAKA, Feb 12, 2025(BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser Dr A F M Khalid Hossain today urged all to build a discrimination free society by showing mutual respect and love and upholding human values.

“Excellent communal harmony has been existing among the people of Bangladesh belonging to different religions,” he said.

The adviser was addressing the concluding session of a 2-day long International Multi-faith Workshop at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Dhaka University (DU) here.

The Inter-Religion and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Centre of the DU, US based Multi-faith Neighbours Network and Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought jointly organized the workshop aimed at building an inclusive society and strengthening religious harmony in the country.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University Prof. Dr Mamun Ahmed was present at the concluding session as special guest.

Chaired by the Convener of the Organizing Committee and Director of the Inter-Religion and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Centre Prof. Dr Md Elias, the function was addressed, among others, by Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University Prof. Dr Nakib Ahmed Nasrullah, Chairman of the World Religion and Culture department of the DU Prof. Dr. Md Abu Sayem, Supernumerary Professor of Pali and Buddhist Studies department of DU Dr. Sukumol Barua, former professor of the Philosophy Department of DU Dr. Anisuzzaman and senior lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court (SC)  Adv. AKM Mujibur Rahman.

The DU Pro-VC Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed said everyone should come forward to remove discrimination and division from the common people and everybody should practice it in personal life. 

He also urged all to work from individual’s position to strengthen existing social unity and harmony. 

The workshop was attended by teachers of Dhaka University, researchers, students, religious leaders and representatives from different organizations.
