Govt considers shelving police verification for issuing passports: Jahangir

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said they are thinking about issuing passports to Bangladeshi nationals without police verification. 
 
"We will try to shelve police verification for issuance of passports," he said after inaugurating the process of lodging complaints through the national emergency service "999" by the passport applicants to simplify the passport verification, at the Home Ministry conference room at the Secretariat here.
 
The Home Adviser said they are thinking whether the police verification system can be withdrawn to simplify the process of issuing passports against Bangladeshi nationals. 
 
Asked about when the system will start functioning, he said, "You will have to give us a little time for this."  
  
At the same programme, the Home Adviser also inaugurated the Online App for Visa on Arrival (VoA) or Transit Visa application for foreign nationals to simplify the issuance visa.
