JRC recommends appointment of retired judges to dispose of pending cases

DHAKA, Feb 15, 2025(BSS) - The Judiciary Reforms Commission (JRC) has suggested the government to appoint retired judges to dispose of under trial cases pilled in district courts, official sources said here today.

The JRC headed by its chief former Justice Shah Abu Noyeem Mominur Rahman recommended appointing honest, efficient and healthy retired Judges for two or three years term to those districts where huge criminal appeals, criminal revisions, civil appeals and civil revisions are remained pending for long.

The commission on February 5 handed over a total of 28-point recommendation to the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus in which they put the recommendation on its serial 18.

Later, the press wing of the chief adviser sent the 28 point recommendation to media outlets and published it in the commission’s website simultaneously.

The commission also recommends using of sections 249 and 265 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to dispose of those cases where the witnesses are not appearing before the court to give their depositions.
