COX’S BAZAR, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain today said practicing religion purifies hearts as when one is engrossed in religious practice, his or her minds remain free from impurities.
He said these while inaugurating a newly built Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre at Barbakia Bazar in Pekua Upazila here.
Khalid said the more mosques are built the more Muslims will be created and the more people rush towards prayers, the more crime-free society will be built.
“Prayer keeps people away from all kinds of misdeeds,” he said.
Three-storey Pekua Upazila Model Mosque was constructed under joint venture of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Islamic Foundation under the project titled “Establishment of 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centres in each district and upazila (2nd phase)”.
Under this project, a total of 300 model mosques and Islamic cultural centres have already been inaugurated after completing construction work in six phases.
A total of 50 model mosques will be inaugurated across the country this month, including the Pekua Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre.
Islamic Foundation Director General A. Salam Khan, Additional Chief Engineer of Chattogram Public Works Department AQM Shahjalal Majumder and Additional District Magistrate of Cox's Bazar Imran Hossain Sajeeb and Director of Model Mosque Construction Project Mohammad Ferdous-uz-Zaman.
Later, the adviser unveiled the inaugural plaque of Pekua Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre and offered prayers there along with other devotees.
