DHAKA, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz has said the DNCC wants to keep main streets of the city corporation off-limit for battery-run rickshaws.
“DNCC wants to play an effective role to stop playing of battery run rickshaws from the main thoroughfares to avert hazards in the city,” he said adding “however, the city corporation will take some alternate initiatives considering the families of 4 million rickshaw drivers.”
Newly appointed DNCC administrator said this while responding to a query of journalists during a views exchange meeting at DNCC Bhaban in Gulshan today.
He said DNCC will design a new plan aimed at developing civic facilities, ensuring environment friendly public transport facilities in a democratic way based on everyone’s opinion.
Seeking cooperation from all quarters for building a fair, tolerable and humane Dhaka, the DNCC top official said the corporation has taken effective measures for recovering the encroached lands and sports grounds, and utilize those spaces for the purpose of the citizens.
There will have no scope to avail any advantage on political consideration, DNCC administrator said adding action would be taken against the extortionists and terrorists.
The DNCC chief, however, said all the encroached canals will be revived and those would be ready for navigation.
Local people would be involved with the initiative for protecting the canals and steps would be taken to keep the water logging problem at a tolerable limit during the upcoming rainy season.
