JASHORE, Feb 18, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said collaborators and allies of the fascists are everywhere, even after fleeing of Sheikh Hasina, and they are hindering the efforts to curb the rising prices of essential commodities.
“The prices of goods aren’t coming down, people aren’t feeling secure, and the police are unable to perform their duties as collaborators and allies of the fascists are present throughout the country. The government must take immediate action against them,” he said.
The BNP Secretary General made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a rally organized by Jashore District BNP at the Town Hall ground here.
District BNP organized the rally demanding keeping the prices of essential commodities at tolerable level, improvement of law and order, announcement of an electoral roadmap and resisting various conspiracies of the fallen fascism.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam also described the terrible consequences faced by the BNP leaders and activists during the dictatorship of Sheikh Hasina. "During the rule of fascist Sheikh Hasina, cases were filed against six million BNP leaders and activists on false charges. Several thousand leaders and activists were killed. Of them, 84 leaders and activists were killed in Jashore alone,” he said.
He added, “Our brothers and our sons had been imprisoned for years in Hasina's ‘Aynaghar’ picking them up and there is no precedence of this in the history of the world.”
Praising Professor Muhammad Yunus, the BNP Secretary General said, "Dr Yunus has received the Nobel Prize. He is the pride of the country, people all over the world respect him, we also respect too. When he took the office as Chief Adviser, we were assured that he would arrange an election soon. We’re still optimistic. Peace will return to the country only if there is an early election."
He told the people of Jashore that if the people vote and BNP comes to power in the next election, all the closed factories of Jashore will be reopened and effective initiatives will be taken to permanently solve the water-logging problem in the Bhabadah area of Jashore.
Earlier in the morning, BNP leaders and activists gathered at the rally ground in groups, carrying banners and festoons with pictures of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman and chanted slogans. The Town Hall Maidan was filled to the brim before noon.
Mentioning BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as a noble woman, he said that she has been waging movement for democracy for years and served many years in jail over false cases. Despite enduring unbearable pain without proper treatment day after day, she has not compromised with Hasina, he added.
Khulna Divisional Acting Organizing Secretary Anindya Islam Amit, Central Committee Executive members TS Ayub, Abul Hossain Azad, Sabira Nazmul Munni, former Central Office Secretary Mofiqul Hasan Tripti, District BNP Member Secretary Syed Saberul Haque Sabu and local leaders also spoke with Jashore District BNP Convener Professor Nargis Islam in the chair.
