DHAKA, February 19, 2025 (BSS) - Six students of Department of Mathematics and the Department of Applied Mathematics of Dhaka University (DU) received A F Mujibur Rahman Gold Medal for their outstanding academic excellence in Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) exams.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan handed over the medals and certificates to the students at a function at the A F Mujibur Rahman Mathematics Building auditorium today.
The event was organized by the A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation in collaboration with the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics departments.
The awardees are Mohammad Minhaj Uddin Turjo, Shova Islam and Shimu Akter of the Mathematics Department and Saiful Islam, Nafiya Mallick, and Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil of the Applied Mathematics.
Chairperson of the Mathematics department Professor Shapla Shirin was in the chair while DU Pro-VC (academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Science Faculty’s Dean Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation’s Trustee M Nurul Alam and Chairperson of the Department of Applied Mathematics Professor Dr. Muhammad Ferdous spoke on the occasion.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan highlighted the crucial role of mathematics in the advancement of science saying Math is an important skill that all students should have the opportunity to learn.
He emphasized the need for using effective teaching methods and creating a positive learning environment to help students to overcome math-related anxieties.
He congratulated the gold medalist students for their achievements and encouraged to contribute in the development of university’s education and research.
On the occasion, a reception was accorded to the first-year undergraduate students of the two departments of 2023-2024 academic sessions.
