Noise polluters must be collectively prevented: Environment Secretary

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) - Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed today said excessive noise poses serious risks to public health and the environment. 

She emphasised the need for awareness and collective efforts to check noise pollution. 

"All silent zones, including hospitals and residential areas, must be kept noise-free," she said here. 

The Environment Secretary inaugurated the 'Horn Usage Discouragement' campaign in front of Osmani Udyan, opposite Gate No. 1 of the Bangladesh Secretariat. 

The campaign aims to raise public awareness at seven key points in the capital.

She further said the campaign will include awareness programmes on noise pollution control. 

Additionally, mobile courts will take legal action against unauthorised horn usage, Farhina said.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Director General of the Department of Environment; Additional Secretary Dr. Fahmida Khanom, Additional Secretary Md. Khairul Hasan, as well as representatives from the ministry, the DoE, environmental organisations, and students.

This campaign will be implemented in front of the Secretariat, Education Building, Zero Point, Paltan Intersection, Kadam Fountain, and in front of key locations in Agargaon, including the Children's Hospital, Pangu Hospital, Betar Mor, and Neuroscience Hospital.
