Farida calls for increasing female farmers

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said farming is one of the biggest private sectors in our country as chickens were kept in the farmer's house where women used to raise chickens.

"To make this sector bigger, the number of women farmers should be increased," she told the inauguration ceremony of a three-day International Poultry Show and Seminar-2025. 

The fair was organized by Bangladesh unit of World Poultry Science Association and 'Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council' at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre here. 

Addressing the World's Poultry Science Association-Bangladesh unit, the advisor said, "As we see a lot of work is being done in the field of poultry feed, we can say that there are potentials prosperities in the sector.

Portraying the urgency of harmless feed to ensure safe food, the adviser said, "If something bad is fed to poultry, it mixes with the food and goes into the stomach of people". 

Moshiur Rahman President of the Bangladesh unit of World's Poultry Science Association presided over the event. 

Md. Tofazzel Hossain, Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General (Acting) of the Department of Livestock, Dr. Shakila Faruk, and Director General of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute attended the event, among others.
 
The fair has been organized under the theme 'Sustainable Poultry for Amazing Bangladesh', featuring 825 stalls with technology and services from more than 200 companies from 27 countries.
