DHAKA, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) – The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) organized its 9th convocation for the qualified chartered secretaries who successfully completed their professional examinations and other requisites of the institute.
The ceremony took place at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday.
Lutfey Siddiqi, the Special Envoy on International Affairs to the Chief Adviser graced the occasion as the chief guest. Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Governor of Bangladesh Bank and Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Secretary (Routine Charge), Ministry of Commerce, were present at the programme as special guests.
Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, was the convocation speaker. The programme was chaired by M Nurul Alam, Acting President of ICSB, said a press release today.
In his speech, Lutfey Siddiqi congratulated all qualified chartered secretaries and underscored that chartered secretaries have a great opportunity of serving the corporate world as well as the government to develop the country.
He mentioned the chartered secretaries as the cornerstones to build standard corporate institutions and practice. He also said they have pivotal roles to play as they work with the Board of Directors to make strategic decisions.
Lutfey also emphasized that chartered secretaries control the culture of governance and diversity of representation in a systematic way.
Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur expected that new chartered secretaries could play an important role in ensuring good corporate governance practice in Bangladesh by following standard guidelines.
He also mentioned that chartered secretaries can change the culture with the imminent reforms with regards to corporate laws, rules and regulations.
Md. Abdur Rahim Khan thanked ICSB for holding its 9th convocation. He said that chartered secretaries have a key role to play in shaping the corporate landscape, as they are in charge of ensuring the efficacy of the corporate governance mechanism.
“The chartered secretaries play challenging and important role in bridging the gap between board of directors and the shareholders,” he added.
The convocation speaker, Professor Niaz Ahmed emphasized the importance of governance in all aspects.
Professor Khan advised the graduates to maintain a ‘Work-Life balance’ for an enduring success; and also suggested to accept all opportunities that come in their lives.
Session Chair M Nurul Alam underscored convocation as a milestone for the graduates and mentioned it as a starting point of new chapter of their professional life.
A decent number of graduates participated in the convocation.
A convocation profile was released by Abul Fazal Mohamed Rubayat, Chairman, Education Committee of ICSB.
Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, chairman, examination committee of ICSB introduced the awardees to receive certificates from the chief guest. At the end, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, treasurer of ICSB delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the institute.
