Bangladesh embassy in Tokyo observes Int'l Mother Language Day

DHAKA, Feb 21, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo today observed the Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day with due solemnity.

The day's programme began in the morning with Ambassador Md. Daud Ali placing a floral wreath at the Shaheed Minar at Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park in Toshima City, said a release received here.

 Embassy officials, expatriate Bangladeshis, and other guests paid tributes to the language martyrs through a 'Provat Feri'.

Later, the national flag was hoisted and lowered to half-mast at the embassy premises, with officials singing the national anthem in unison.

In the afternoon, a discussion and cultural programme was held at the United Nations University in Tokyo. Artists from Bangladesh, Japan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka participated in the event. Messages from the Chief Advisor on the occasion were also read out.

Ambassador Daud Ali, in his speech, paid tributes to the language martyrs and emphasized the significance of protecting languages and cultures. United Nations University Rector Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala also highlighted the global importance of linguistic diversity.

Ambassadors from different countries, Japanese civil society members, journalists, and expatriate Bangladeshis attended the event.
