ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS) - The first alumni reunion of Al-Qur'an and Islamic Studies department of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia was held today on the campus amid much festive and fanfare manner.
Marking the day, a colourful procession was brought out from the faculty building with teachers, students, alumni and their family members.
After parading the main streets on the campus, the rally concluded at the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Central auditorium.
Later, a discussion programme was held at the central auditorium which started with the recitation from the Holy Quran, islamic songs and nasheed.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr M Yeaqub Ali addressed the event as chief guest.
IU Treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam and Theology faculty dean Professor Dr A B M Siddiqur Rahman Asrafi were present at event as special guests.
Besides, Chairman of Akij group of industries, Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin addressed the event as guest of honour. Islamic scholar, Mufti Amir Hamza spoke at the event, among others.
In his speech as the special guest, Dr. Asrafi addressed Awami fascism and their dominance.
Despite the Al Qur'an department was the first department of the university, the Awami government didn't allow us to organize a reunion, tagging us militants, he added.
Addressing the event, IU VC Prof Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah said, 'Many have lost their eyesight and become blind in the July movement and many others became disabled. We are now fulfilling important responsibilities of the government in dedication to their sacrifices. We must not forget their contribution. For the first time, the Al-Quran Department can organize this event openly today.'
To mark the day, a cultural function and Quran night was held at the concluding session of the programme.
Meanwhile, the reunion event was graced by the participation of over a thousand attendees. Through cherished campus memories, they rekindled old bonds, shared moments of joy and celebrated their times with nostalgia.
