RANGPUR, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS) – Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali has said that fine arts are an expression of deep human feelings that reflect thought, culture and time.
‘Fine arts are not just a game of colors and shapes, but deep human feelings,” he said while addressing the inaugural function of a three-day divisional fine arts exhibition held at Shilpakala Academy cafeteria here on Friday night as the chief guest.
The exhibition is being organised marking the ‘Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day 2025’ as a unique platform for the expression of creative ideas of new and experienced artists.
“This exhibition is not only for art lovers, but it also presents a new perspective to society as well,” he said.
North Canvas Bangladesh in collaboration with the Rangpur District Shilpakala Academy is organising the three-day exhibition, starting from February 21, dedicated to all martyrs during the 1952-2024 periods with paintings of July Revolution.
Rangpur Divisional Fine Arts Exhibition Organizing Committee Convener Ahsan Ahmed moderated the function.
The exhibition's initiator, renowned artist Professor Alauddin Ahmed, said that Rangpur is a district city rich in art, literature and culture.
“Many renowned artists from Rangpur have left their mark on the outside world by crossing the country's borders. In addition, this divisional fine arts exhibition is a joy and celebration for all artists to develop fine arts in the vibrant Rangpur,” he said.
Ahsan Ahmed said the divisional fine arts exhibition is featuring watercolor and acrylic paintings, drawings and sketches, miniature sculptures, terracotta and calligraphy.
A total of 108 paintings by 52 artists from the country, selected by renowned artist Professor Alauddin Ahmed, are being featured in the exhibition.
In this exhibition, the artists will paint pictures of the fascist regime's oppression and torture, as well as the country's money laundering in the name of development.
“Once again, the picture of the natural Bangladesh of potential, the hopes and aspirations of the people and the times will emerge too in the paintings,” Ahsan Ahmed said.
Rangpur Divisional Fine Arts Exhibition Organizing Committee Convener and District Cultural Officer KM Arifuzzaman, Advisor Chowdhury Mahmudunnabi Dollar, Joint Convener Mizanur Rahman Misu, Member-secretary Jahangir Kabir, Joint Member-secretary Mahmudunnabi Babul, Palash Kanti Nag and others were present.
Noted artists Habib Ullah Bahar, Soumen Chowdhury and Farhadul Alam Sabuj from Chattogram, artists MD Rajan and Dharma Narayan Roy from Mymensingh, artists Ziaul Haque and MA Ahad Palash from Sylhet, artists from Rajshahi University including Samia Rahman, Ritu Pramanik, Munem Shahariar, Sutapa Barman and Tamanna Yasmin, artists from Dhaka Emon Ali, Anha Mou, Tiger Nazir and Arun Kumar Barman, Bogura Art College's Sayeed Malitha, Keyayet Ullah, Gazi Asha Anik Roy and many others are participating in the exhibition.
