DHAKA, Oct 27, 2021 (BSS) - Dhaka University former Vice-Chancellor

Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique today expressed profound shock and sorrow at
the death of Awami League Advisory Council member and former vice chairman of
Bangladesh Bar Council Abdul Baset Majumder.  

  In a condolence message, he said Abdul Baset, former president and general
secretary of Bangladesh Supreme Court Lawyers' Association, was known as the
lawyer of the poor people as he used to provide legal aid to the needy people
free of cost.   

  His death created an enormous vacuum not only in the field of law but also
in country's political arena, he said.  

  Professor Arefin, also chairman of the board of directors of Bangladesh
Sangbad Sangstha, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and
conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.  

  The veteran lawyer died today around 8:15 am while undergoing treatment at
United Hospital in the capital.
