Sounding a note of caution regarding reducing the arable land at an alarming level due to construction of various structures including buildings, said Lt. Gen. Jahangir Alam, who is also in-charge of the ministry of agriculture said everybody have to take the matter into consideration to protect our agricultural lands.
About the necessity of quality seed, he said if the seed quality is inferior then the farmers have to suffer due to less output of the crops. So, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would have to supply good and quality seeds among the farmers, he added.
Mentioning the poor potato production this year, the adviser said the potato production during this year was not up to the mark as the seed quality supplied by the BADC was not good. “We do not want that the farmers would be the victim due to this reason”.
Highlighting good production of different crops, the adviser said the yield of several crops was good this year as the farmers have followed different land cultivation techniques. The cost of the farming system is initially high but afterwards it ultimately reduces.
