ACC decides to sue ex-minister Abdur Rahman, wife Nahida 

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file two separate cases against former fisheries and livestock minister and ex-MP from Faridpur-1 (Madhukhali, Boalmari and Alfadanga) constituency Md Abdur Rahman and his wife Dr. Mirza Nahida Hossain on charges of amassing wealth inconsistent with the known income sources.

ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain disclosed this at a press briefing at the commission's Segunbagicha headquarters office today.

Md Abdur Rahman, being a public representative, has acquired assets and kept those in his possession worth about Taka  1 crore, 72 lakh, 76 thousand 472,  inconsistent with the known sources of income through criminal misconduct and abuse of power, he claimed.

During the briefing, it was also informed that Md Abdur Rahman has made suspicious transactions of Tk 3,892. 32 crore in 19 bank accounts abusing state-power and  money laundering and concealed the sources of money, what the ACC found, through ‘corruption and bribery’.

The filing of a case is underway under the ACC act, he mentioned.

Meanwhile, his wife Dr. Mirza Nahida Hossain has obtained moveable and immovable assets worth over Tk 6.30 crore, which went beyond her legal income sources. 

 In addition, it is alleged that Dr. Nahida made suspicious transactions in her 16 bank accounts involving more than Tk 26.56 crore, where the sources of income were kept hiding, which is related to money laundering.

Another case against her and her husband will be filed under the relevant sections, the ACC official added.
