5-day 'Selim Al Deen Mela' concludes in Feni 

FENI, Feb 28, 2025 (BSS) - The five-day 'Selim Al Deen Mela' in memory of the 
renowned playwright of the subcontinent, Selim Al Deen, concluded on Thursday 
at Mangalkandi High School ground in Sonagazi upazila of the district.

The last performance of the last day was a captivating performance by the 
Department of Drama of Chittagong University (CU). The group mesmerized the 
audience with a romantic and estranged play-- Shesher Kobita, based on 
Rabindranath's novel 'Shesher Kobita'. 

Under the patronage of the cultural ministry, the district administration in 
collaboration with Sonagazi upazila administration organised the fair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Ismail Hossain presided over the 
closing ceremony of the fair. 

He said Selim Al Deen is not only the pride of Feni but of the whole 
Bangladesh, even he is the pride of the world. His works show the way to the 
country and the nation, his creations speak of the land and the people.

Sonagazi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kamrul Hasan, former Vice-chairman of 
Sonagazi Upazila Parishad (UP) Jannatul Ferdous Mita, Vice-president of Selim 
Al Deen Center poet-researcher Shabih Mahmud, former Chairman of Mangalkandi 
Union Daudul Islam Minar, former Chairman of Charchandia Union Shamsuddin 
Khokon, former Chairman of Char Darbesh Union Abul Kalam Azad, social worker 
Humayun Kabir Patwary and President of the Managing Committee of Bishnapur 
High School Nazmul Karim Dulal spoke at the closing ceremony.

On the fourth day of the fair, Dhaka's Ahir Bangla group performed 'Joytun 
Bibi Pala' on Wednesday evening. On the third day of the fair (Tuesday), 
Gaibandha's Sarathi Theater performed 'Kalindir Geet' based on 'Jaybati 
Kanyar Mon' written by Selim Al Deen.

The play 'Tini Aschen (He is Coming) by the Department of Drama, Chittagong 
University, was performed at 8 pm on the second day of the fair. 

Earlier, Feni Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam inaugurated the Selim Al Deen 
Fair last Sunday afternoon (February 23). 

On the first day, the Dhaka team staged Selim Al Deen's written play 'Chaka', 
which is based on the July-August uprising.
