Jahangir raises flag of new BGB battalion in Ukhiya

COX’S BAZAR, March 1, 2025 (BSS)- Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) today inaugurated a new battalion of the BGB at Ukhiya Upazila of Cox’s Bazar to ensure flawless security along Bangladesh-Myanmar border. 
 
“The sensitivity of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border has increased to a great extent in the past few years due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. As far as current border situation is concerned the decision of establishing a new battalion on Bamgladesh-Myanmar frontier was the need of the time,” he said.

Jahangir Alam raised the flag of the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) of the BGB at the training ground of Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) here, said a press release of the BGB.

Talking to journalists after inaugurating the Ukhiya Battalion the home adviser said, “We are optimistic that the Ukhia battalion will play an important role in ensuring flawless security along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.”

The battalion will also prevent illegal infiltration, smuggling of drugs and contraband goods, containing cross-border crime, militancy and terrorist activities, and providing security to the lives and property of the frontier people, he said.

On the same occasion the Home Adviser also hoisted flags of Station Headquarters and Guard Police Battalion, Dhaka and Dog Squad K-9 Unit and Training Center, Gazipur.

After inaugurating the Ukhiya Battalion, Jahangir Alam said that the BGB battalion was established in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar to increase surveillance and activity along the border. 

BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui was present, among others at the function.
