DHAKA, March 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today adjourned till tomorrow its hearing on a plea challenging the High Court verdict that cancelled the process to recruit 6,531 candidates as assistant teachers at government primary schools in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.

Today was fixed for holding hearing in this regard as Appellate Division Judge-in-Chamber Justice Md Rezaul Haque set the date on February 18. But Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman today pleaded to adjourn the hearing till tomorrow for his personal difficulties.

A three-member apex court bench headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam later adjourned the hearing till tomorrow.

Appellate Division Judge-in-Chamber Justice Md Rezaul Haque on February 18 forwarded the matter to the Appellate Division full bench for further hearing.

The apex court passed the order after holding primary hearing on the civil petition filed by the director general of Directorate of Primary Education.

A High Court division bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi on February 6 pronounced the judgment, also asking the authorities concerned to follow Appellate Division's latest verdict on quota system and publish recruitment results afresh.

Thirty candidates filed a writ challenging the decision to publish lists of successful candidates, accusing authorities of following a quota system in the recruitment of candidates from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions in the third phase. 

The High Court, after holding a hearing on the matter, issued the rule and stayed the recruitment process for six months. The court later came up with the judgment, declaring absolute that rule.
