RANGPUR, Mar 3, 2025 (BSS) - Steps have been taken to launch 24/7 hour institutional delivery service in eight remote Union Health and Family Welfare Centers (UHFWCs) of five upazilas in Kurigram to improve reproductive healthcare and reduce maternal and child mortality.
Divisional Director of the Department of Family Planning for Rangpur division, Dewan Morshed Kamal, disclosed the information while visiting Naodanga Union Health and Family Welfare Center of Fulbari upazila, Ramkhana and Noonkhawa Union Health and Family Welfare Centers of Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram today.
Recently, with the technical assistance of the Canadian government and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Bangladesh, these steps have been taken to improve the quality of reproductive health services, including 24/7 institutional normal delivery services, at eight UHFWCs in five upazilas of Kurigram.
LAMB, a foreign donor-run hospital, is implementing the activities under the Sexual Reproductive Maternal Neonatal Child-Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH) project.
Dewan Morshed Kamal said that steps have been taken in the remote riverine char areas of Kurigram, to provide care to pregnant women, mothers, child care and counseling to adolescents and family planning services by skilled midwives.
“The steps will raise public awareness about the importance of institutional and normal deliveries and help strengthen the referral system and identify patients with via and fistula for their referral and timely treatment,” he said.
Deputy Director of the Family Planning Department of Kurigram Md. Modabber Hossain and Assistant Director Dr. Md. Manzur Hossain, LAMB Operations Director Swapan Pahan and its Director of Community Health and Development Programme Utpal Minj accompanied Dewan Morshed Kamal during the UHFWC visits.
Dewan Morshed Kamal will visit Narayanpur union of Nageshwari upazila and Char Saheber Alga union of Ulipur upazila in Kurigram tomorrow along with LAMB Project Manager Mahtab Liton and concerned officials.
