Legal Aid's hotline provides free legal aid to 183,736 people

DHAKA, March 5, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 183,736 people have received free legal assistance through the National Legal Aid Services Organization's designated hotline (16430) service.
 
This information has been revealed in a report published on the website of the National Legal Aid Services Organization, providing detailed insights into the legal assistance offered through Legal Aid from 2009 to January 2025.
 
The report also mentioned that prior to the establishment of the national helpline, 17,328 people received legal services through the hotline at government expense.
 
Initially, the legal aid service of the National Legal Aid Services Organization was launched at the district level. Gradually, it was expanded to the Supreme Court, along with the introduction of a toll-free hotline (16430), the formation of worker assistance cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and legal aid services in prisons across the country.
 
The report said that legal aid has been provided to 1,168,947 people under the organization at government expense during this period. Of these, 124,808 prisoners have been provided with legal aid service at the expense of the government.
 
Of these, 464,934 legal advice services were provided. Among the service recipients, 28,611 were provided through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 927,525 through the Legal Aid Offices of 64 districts of the country, and 29,075 through the Dhaka and Chattogram Workers' Legal Aid Cells.
 
This service is provided at government expense under the 'Legal Aid Act' with the aim of providing legal assistance to the financially indigent and incompetent people seeking justice in the country.
 
The activities of the National Legal Aid Organization are carried out under the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
