BUENOS AIRES, March 10, 2025 (BSS /TASS) - The government of Argentina has declared three days of mourning following the deaths of at least 16 people due to flooding in the southern area of the Buenos Aires province, the president's administration announced.

"The Office of the President announces that President Javier Milei will declare three days of mourning for the compatriots who lost their lives due to severe weather in and around the city of Bahia Blanca on Friday," the statement reads.

According to the authorities in Bahia Blanca, 16 deaths have been confirmed so far. Earlier, it was reported that 13 people had been killed in the disaster. The search for two children who went missing during the flooding is still ongoing. The authorities also stated that 963 people have been evacuated.

Flooding broke out in the port city of Bahia Blanca and its suburbs on March 7 due to heavy rains. In just a few hours, approximately 300 mm of precipitation fell in the affected area, setting a historical record for the city. The town is still facing power outages. The federal government has pledged 10 billion pesos ($9 million) to help address the damage caused by the disaster.
