Nat'l Youth Day, Int'l Youth Day to be celebrated on Aug 12

DHAKA, March 13, 2025 (BSS) - The Council of Advisers today approved the proposal to celebrate National Youth Day and International Youth Day together on August 12, aiming to reduce government expenses.

The approval was given at a meeting of the Council of Advisers at the Chief Adviser's Office with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair, said a media release of the Cabinet Division. 

The release said National Youth Day is celebrated annually on November 1 with vibrant events held across the country.

Additionally, on December 17, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared that International Youth Day would be observed on August 12 each year.

Since the activities for both International Youth Day and National Youth Day are largely similar, the Council of Advisers has approved the proposal to celebrate both days together in order to reduce government expenses.

Besides, the draft of the "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025" has been approved in principle and finalized by the council of advisers. The approval is subject to the vetting of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.

Under this ordinance, the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University will be changed to Bangladesh Medical University.

On the other hand, the council of advisers also gave final approval the draft of the "Sheikh Hasina Medical University, Khulna (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025", subjected to the vetting of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division. 

This ordinance proposed the change of name of Sheikh Hasina Medical University, Khulna to Khulna Medical University.

Moreover, the draft of the "Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Medical University, Sylhet (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025" has been approved in principle and finalized by the council of advisers, which is subjected to the vetting of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division. 

Through this ordinance, the name of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Medical University, Sylhet will be changed to Sylhet Medical University.

The council of advisers also was apprised of participation of the Bangladesh delegation led by the Adviser of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Declaration of February 21 as International Mother Language Day by UNESCO at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris during February 20-21, 2025.

The Advisory Council decided that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will take the initiative to introduce boats, Jamdani saris and Tangail woven saris as cultural heritage of Bangladesh to the world through UNESCO.
