DHAKA, March 13, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jagannath University
(JnU) Professor Md Rezaul Karim today urged young generation to restrain
themselves from tobacco consumption so that they can maintain a healthy life.

He stated that students should build their lives in a healthy way along with
acquiring moral qualities right from their university life. So, they should
keep themselves away from tobacco consumption.

"An announcement has already been made to ban smoking and the use of tobacco
products on the campus," he added.

He made these remarks while addressing a procession organized by the JnU
Anti-Tobacco Club on the campus with the aim of making the campus smoking-
free, according to a press release.

Starting from the Social Sciences Building of the university, the procession
ended at the main gate of the university after parading several roads on the
campus.

Later, a four member-delegation of the club submitted a memorandum to the VC,
the release added.

essential for an educational institution.

Mentioning that about 12 percent of teenagers in the country are addicted to
smoking, JnU Anti-Tobacco Club Chief Advisor Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam
said, "Youth is the shield against all injustices. Therefore, they should
thwart all the tricks of tobacco companies to protect themselves."
