Mild heat wave likely to continue over parts of country

DHAKA, March 17, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today forecasted mild heat wave is sweeping over different parts of the country including the capital for the next 24 hours begins from this morning.

"Mild heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Dhaka, Faridpur, Manikganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Rangamati, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Chuadanga and Patuakhali and it may continue," said the forecast begins from 9am today.

Trough of low lies over the West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over the South Bay.

Rain or thundershowers or lightening flashes accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places, it added. 

"Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country," the forecast said, adding that day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Country's maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded 37.7 degree Celsius at Baghabari in Sirajganj district and today's minimum temperature 14.9 degree Celsius was recorded at Tetulia upazila in Panchagarh district.

Country's maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6 am today was recorded 18 millimeters (mm) at Narshingdi district.

The sun sets at 06.08pm today and rises at 06.05am tomorrow in the capital.
