DHAKA, March 17, 2025 (BSS) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)
today a issued a traffic guideline for areas surrounding big market or
shopping mall for creating convenient environment for shopping ahead
of the Eid-ul-Fitr by managing the huge crowd of people and transport.
In order to facilitate Eid shopping for the people of Dhaka Metropolitan
City, vehicles other than shopping are specially requested to avoid the
roads adjacent to various markets as much as possible from March 21
and 22 and March 26, 2025 until the day before Eid and to use
alternative routes, said a DMP statement signed by DMP Commissioner
SM Sazzat Ali.
“For convenience of the public coming for Eid shopping in various
markets and vehicles moving around the market areas, the following
crossings will be closed from 1.00 pm to 10.00 pm every day from 21st
and 22nd March and 26th March 2025 until the day before Eid,” the
statement said.
If the pressure of vehicles on the relevant areas/roads is high, the
following diversions will be provided from time to time to control traffic in
that areas to keep other roads of the metropolis running, it said.
1. Vehicles going from Sonargaon Crossing to Panthapath (Bir Uttam
Kazi Nuruzzaman Road) to Panthapath area/New Market
area/Dhanmondi/Mohammanpur/Jhigatola/Mirpur will be diverted
towards Farmgate or Shahbagh.
2. Vehicles going from Panthapath Green Road Crossing to Sonargaon
Crossing (including vehicles making a U-turn on Panthapath) will be
diverted towards Green Road/Russell Square or Farmgate.
3. Vehicles going from Mirpur Road and Dhanmondi to New Market via
Science Lab Intersection (except city buses) will be diverted to take a left
turn from Science Lab Crossing to Elephant Road or Kataban Road or
Palashi Crossing.
4. At New Market Crossing, vehicles (except city buses) going to Mirpur
Road will be diverted from New Market Crossing to Nilkhet Crossing or
Azimpur Crossing or New Market-Pilkhana Road.
From March 21 and 22 and March 26, 2025 until the day before Eid, the
above diversions will be enforced from time to time, the statement said.
A separate lane (which can accommodate at least 3 rickshaws) is being
created on both sides of Mirpur Road from New Market Crossing to
Science Lab Crossing for rickshaws.
All rickshaw drivers and passengers are specifically requested to use the
said lane.
In this situation, vehicles plying in front of New Market on Panthapath
and Mirpur Road are requested to follow the above short-term diversion
and use the rickshaw lane in the New Market area of Mirpur Road.
“The DMP seeks everyone's cooperation in this regard,” the statement
said.
