JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Mar 17, 2025 (BSS) - A group of Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture (CLC) students at Jahangirnagar University (JU) today staged a day-long sit-in protest demanding immediate solution to classroom shortages and the establishment of a permanent building by considering the academic needs.
Some 30 students assembled for the sit-in protest at around 11:30 am in front of the new administrative building which was continued till 6:00 pm to press home their demand.
Addressing the program, Mustafizur Rahman, a third-year student of the institute, said, “Our institute has been conducting classes and exams with just two classrooms. If one batch holds classes, another cannot attend exams or lectures at a time.”
“The university administration has shown indifference to providing a permanent solution”, he added, citing their long-standing demand of the abandoned Fazilatunnesa Hall as their permanent institute building.
“We came here to press our demands multiple times and also sit-in meetings with the vice-chancellor but we didn’t get any sustainable solution. For this reason, we have to come here again,” said Borhan Uddin, a third-year student of the institute.
Contacted, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Kamrul Ahsan said, “We constituted a committee led by Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman to see the matter. They will visit the institute tomorrow to provide a temporary solution.”
“We scheduled a meeting on March 20 for discussing with the students and faculties to get an effective and permanent solution in this regard,” he added.
