Kaler Kantho’s Assistant Editor Ali Habib passes away

DHAKA, Mar 18, 2025 (BSS) - Renowned journalist and Assistant Editor of The Daily Kaler Kantho Ali Habib has passed away. He was 61.

He breathed his last on Tuesday around 7:45 pm at the Evercare Hospital in the capital.

Ali Habib fell ill while on duty at his office in the afternoon. His colleagues rushed him to the hospital, where doctors placed him on life support. Later, at around 7:45 pm, he was declared death.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at 9:45 pm at the East West Media Group compound (Kaler Kantho office premises). Afterward, his body will be taken to his hometown in Jhenaidah for burial.

Ali Habib was a prominent journalist and was discharging his duty as an assistant editor of the vernacular Daily the Kaler Kantho.

Ali Habib joined Daily Janakantha as an editorial assistant in 1993. Later, he served as an assistant editor and chief coordinator of the feature department since 2001. He was the departmental editor of the feature pages 'Rango Bhara Bongodesh' and 'Jhilimili'.

He has been working in the Daily Kaler Kantho since September 2009. He used to write on contemporary issues in the sub-editorial department of Kaler Kantho.

In separate condolence messages, East West Media Group’s Deputy Managing Director Kader Gani Chowdhury, Kaler Kantho Editor and National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, and National Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.

They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
