CUMILLA, Mar 19, 2025 (BSS) – National Citizens Party (NCP) Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah today said the current administration, mostly dominated by Awami League men, lacks the ability to conduct a free and fair election as people failed to vote freely in the last three national polls.

“In those elections, the people were unable to cast their votes. Until this administration is reformed, we are not sure that it can conduct a free and fair election,” he said.

He was addressing an iftar mahfil arranged in memory of the martyrs of July uprising at Shashongachha in Cumilla.

Hasnat Abdullah said the government should test the transparency and ability of the administration through conducting local elections. “Therefore, we want the local government elections to serve as a test for the transparency of the administration,” he said.

He urged the interim government to organize the local government elections first. “If necessary, hold the elections in multiple phases—across five to six stages in different upazilas—to ensure the transparency of this administration.”

He stated that conspiracies are being hatched by certain groups to rehabilitate the Awami League which was ousted by the students and citizens who sacrificed fresh blood.

Various political parties are engaging in diplomacy to rehabilitate the Awami League for electoral benefits, he said, adding, “We want to warn you that the students and people have nothing to lose. "Just as two swords cannot fit in one scabbard, similarly, after August 5, the Awami League and the NCP cannot coexist in Bangladesh."

If anyone tries to rehabilitate the Awami League, they will face the same consequences that happened to the Prime Minister's residence on August 5 last year, he concluded.
