Drama staged at Birganj to prevent child marriage

DINAJPUR, March 22, 2025 (BSS) - A drama for creating awareness was performed
today in Birganj upazila of the district to prevent child marriage and
violence against children.

The one-and-a-half-hour drama was staged at 9.30 pm on Friday at the
initiative of Impact Plus Children of Mohanpur union in Birganj upazila of
the district.

The play was staged by the Barhat Bakul Group in Matiakura village of
Mohanpur union in collaboration with World Vision Bangladesh AP.

World Vision Bangladesh Birganj AP Programme Officer Shyamala Shanti Koraiya
was present as the chief guest at the programme presided over by Nazrul
Islam, president of Matiakura Village Development Committee of Mohanpur
union.

Shyamala Shanti Koraiya said, "We declared Matiakura village free of child
marriage in 2023. World Vision is constantly working to raise awareness in
order to declare all villages in 11 unions and one municipality of Birganj
upazila child marriage free by 2025."

"But it is not enough to just declare child marriage free. We all need to be
aware and work together to prevent child marriage," he said.

You all know about the ill effects of child marriage. Therefore, I request
the parents not to get your children married at an early age. Encourage them
to go to school, he added.

He called everyone to work together to prevent child marriage with the slogan
"My village, my responsibility, let the life of the child be free from child
marriage."

At that time, Birganj Upazila Borahat Village Development Committee President
Ganesh Chandra Roy, Tulshipur Village Development Committee President
Shafiqul Islam, Chak-Mahadevpur Village Development Committee President
Razzak Islam, Kashipur Village Development Committee President Jiten Chanda,
Miratungi Village Development Committee President Saiful Islam, Krishnanagar
Village Development Committee President Abdul Latif, Mohanpur Village
Development Committee President Abdul Wahed, Mohanpur Women's Leader Laili
Begum, religious leaders, students and locals were present to enjoy the play.
