DHAKA, March 23, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a set of instructions aimed at maintaining discipline on the roads and checking nagging traffic snarls ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr to make the home journey safe and smooth.
"All drivers of vehicles and city residents are requested to comply with the following instructions to ensure public safety and avoid traffic congestion," said a DMP statement issued today.
The DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has sought cooperation from all concerned to pursue the traffic guidelines for smooth and safe travel.
Following are the traffic guidelines ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr:
(a) Movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries on the highways will be stopped from 25-03-2025 to 28-03-2025 and for three days after Eid;
(b) One-way road from Abdullahpur to Dhowr/Ashulia;
(c) Arrangement of only outgoing traffic through BRT lanes;
Given the above decision, traffic will be restricted on the following roads from 25-03-2025 until the night before Eid:
(1) cAll types of vehicles will play on the road from Abdullahpur in Uttara to Kamarpara via Dhowr Bridge on Dhaka-Ashulia Highway only for exiting Dhaka Metropolitan City (one-way). Vehicles entering Dhaka via Ashulia Dhowr-Kamarpara-Abdullahpur on the said road will enter Gabtoli/other areas via Mirpur Beribandh Road via Ashulia-Dhowr-Panchabati.
(2) All types of vehicles will ply from Dhaka towards Joydevpur intersection only for exiting Dhaka (one-way diversion) on the two lanes of the Airport to Gazipur coming and going of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
No vehicles will be allowed to enter Dhaka through the BRT's Dhaka entry lane. Vehicles on other lanes of the highway will operate normally as before. BRT vehicles heading towards Dhaka will enter Dhaka on normal roads/lanes along with other vehicles.
(3) From the above date, in order to facilitate the movement of vehicles related to Eid journey, other vehicles are requested to avoid the following roads and use alternative roads except for urgent needs:
1) Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway (Airport to Abdullahpur)
2) Dhaka-Chittagong Highway (Jatrabari to Signboard)
3) Purbachal Expressway (300 feet road)
4) Dhaka-Aricha Highway (Mirpur Road: Shyamoli to Gabtoli)
5) Dhaka-Keraniganj Road (Phulbaria to Tatibazar to Babubazar Bridge)
6) Dhaka-Mawa Highway (Jatrabari to Buriganga Bridge)
7) Mohammadpur Basila Crossing to Basila Bridge Road
8) Abdullahpur to Dhow Bridge Road
The DMP said they have taken the measures on the occasion of Eid as a large number of people will travel from Dhaka metropolitan city to different districts of the country on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, the statement said.
Usually, more than one crore people leave Dhaka metropolitan city during the holy Eid and about three million people enter Dhaka from elsewhere in the country.
Various activities are being carried out by the Traffic Division of DMP to make the Eid journey of the people heading home smooth and comfortable.
