DHAKA, March 23, 2025 (BSS) - Adviser to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Affairs Freedom Fighter Farooq-e-Azam today laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Headquarters at Moghbazar in the city.
At the foundation stone-laying ceremony, the Adviser said, "As a nation, the people of Bangladesh spontaneously extend their hands of cooperation through volunteerism during disasters. However, due to a lack of coordination, we fail to fully benefit from this," he added.
The Adviser urged the Red Crescent to take a more integrated role in disaster management. He assured that all forms of cooperation from the government would continue in this regard.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Chairman Major General (Retd) Prof Dr Md Azizul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Mostafizur Rahman, Member of Management Board Dr Sheikh Abu Zafar, Professor Dr Imran Bin Yunus, Air Commodore (Retd) Shahe Alam, Project Director and Joint Secretary of the Ministry Abu Daud Md Golam Mustafa, among others, were present at the event.
The new 10-storey building will be constructed at a cost of Taka 495.6 crore.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is implementing the project with government funding, which is expected to be completed by next June.
