DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) - Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb today said the government is focused on creating new investment opportunities in Bangladesh.
“We have numerous government institutions, and we aim to strengthen and reform them through public-private partnerships or government-to-government (G2G) investments. Our goal is to unlock fresh avenues for investment,” he said.
The special assistant made the remarks when EU Ambassador Michael Miller met him at Dak Bhaban, said a ministry press release today.
Michael Miller discussed policy frameworks, EU investments, project financing, and the importance of enhancing employee skills through training.
He mentioned that the EU is a key and reliable development partner for Bangladesh, expressing a strong willingness to invest in the country.
Taiyeb said that a draft version of the digital transformation master plan and ICT roadmap has been prepared, and similar roadmaps will be presented to the nation for each state-owned institution.
“Our progress is driven by 10 key pillars, including the digitalization of government services, decentralization, and the enhancement of institutional capacity,” he said.
He continued that they have vision for data exchange and governance alongside focus on developing digital public infrastructure.
Additionally, he mentioned that work is ongoing on the Cyber Security Ordinance and the Personal Data Protection Act.
When Ambassador Miller inquired about the digital transformation strategy, the Special Assistant responded that stakeholders would be consulted on the master plan for the strategy, and the goal is to have it take shape by mid of this year.
He said that work on the Personal Data Protection Act will continue for a few more days, after which public feedback will be sought at four levels.
First, discussions will be held with business representatives, followed by consultations with local business representatives, human rights organizations, and media persons, he said.
Finally, inter-ministerial consultations will take place to gather additional opinions, he added.
Taiyeb said the goal is to enhance the quality of ICT and cyber assets, and to involve not only government agencies but also law enforcement agencies and government employees.
Focus is also placed on Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) and improving staff skills, he said.
In this regard, the Special Assistant said, training proposals are expected from the EU and the e-Governance team. He also urged the EU Ambassador to invest in the technology sector.
The EU Ambassador invited the Special Assistant to join in the upcoming Global Gateway Forum in Brussels.
ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury and officials concerned were present.
