RANGPUR, March, 26, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali has stressed on building a discrimination-free Bangladesh to make the main theme of achieving independence in 71 and 24 meaningful for every citizen.
“To achieve the goal, people from all walks of life should play their due role in building a discrimination-free country,” he said while addressing a discussion arranged marking the Independence and National Day-2025 today as the chief guest.
Earlier, the Vice-chancellor inaugurated the Independence procession from the south gate of the university’s administrative building in the morning to begin the celebration of the day with due dignity.
The procession went around the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Square, circled the main roads of the campus and ended in the Independence Memorial Square.
Teachers, students, officers and employees of various departments, offices, residential halls, institutes of the university participated in the procession.
Later, the Vice-chancellor paid respect to the brave martyrs of the great liberation war by placing a wreath at the Independence Memorial.
Then, various faculties, departments, residential halls, institutes, teachers, officers, employees and students of the university and various social and cultural organizations presented wreaths there.
On the occasion, a discussion was held in the virtual classroom of Academic Building-2 presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Tajul Islam, Convener of the March 26 Independence Day and National Day 2025 Celebration Committee.
Paying rich tribute to the memory of all the martyrs who achieved the country's independence, the Vice-chancellor said that on this day in 1971, a new state, independent Bangladesh, emerged on the world map.
“I expressed my deep gratitude to all those who contributed to the establishment of the independent state, including declaration of independence, sector commanders who participated in the liberation war, and the freedom fighters,” he said.
He said that the second independence of Bangladesh was achieved on the soil of Begum Rokeya University.
Paying deep tribute to all the martyrs in the July Movement of 2024, the Vice-chancellor said that the benefits of the second independence must be reached every door to door through building a discrimination-free country.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, spoke as a special guest.
Moderated by the University Registrar Dr. Md. Harun-or Rashid, the discussion was also addressed by Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Md. Ferdous Rahman, Controller of Examinations (Acting) Dr. Md. Tanziul Islam, Deputy Librarian of the Central Library and Information Center Md. Abdus Samad Prodhan, among others.
Earlier, the national flag was hoisted at sunrise to celebrate the day with due dignity.
