DHAKA, Mar 26, 2025 (BSS) - Bus and launch terminals and train stations are witnessing rush of home goers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.
Eid holidaymakers are returning home smoothly and comfortably to celebrate the festival with dear and near thanks to the initiatives taken by the concerned authorities.
On rail, road, water and airways, they are reaching their destinations on time while law enforcement agencies are working round the clock to ensure their security.
So far, there was no information about long traffic jams, train schedule disruptions, excessive fare collection and security violations from anywhere in the country.
Railway Adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan visited Kamalapur Railway Station Wednesday to inspect the Eid journey and inaugurated a new pair of trains.
He spoke to the railway officials for developing railway services and preventing corruption and check waste of public money.
During this time, he greeted the passengers who arrived in Dhaka by Narsingdi commuter train and the passengers of the Rangpur Express that left Dhaka.
On the third day of the Eid journey, all trains have left Dhaka on time. A total of 69 trains, including 43 intercity and 26 mail and commuter trains, are running to different destinations in the country, said Dhaka Railway Station Manager Shahadat Hossain.
"We have all kinds of preparations for passenger service. Security measures have been strengthened from the start of the journey to the train station until the train reaches its destination,” he said.
Despite huge crowd in bus terminals in Dhaka there was no significant pressure from passengers marking Eid journey.
Due to the long Eid holiday, people have are going to home on their suitable day, making their journey relaxed.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) is taking action against any additional fare charged for the Eid journey. Mobile courts are there to monitor the situation.
List of bus fare were hanged out in all ticket counters at Gabtoli and Mohakhali bus terminals and no complaints of excessive fare were reported so far from passengers in those terminals. However, mobile court went to action against a number of transport companies for charging additional fare from passengers at Saidabad bus terminal.
A rush of passengers has also been observed on the waterways on the occasion of Eid. Launches to various destinations are leaving from Sadarghat on time. Security has been beefed up at Sadarghat.
The Bangladesh Water Transport Authority is monitoring to ensure that no one can charge extra fare.
Muhammad Mobarak Hossain, Joint Director of Dhaka River Port said the drive is being conducted to ensure that the prescribed fare list is displayed in all launches.
"We have operated a mobile court to ensure that no one can charge extra fare. We have fined a few launches. Now, the fixed fare list is displayed on all launches,” he said.
There is no pressure as movement of homebound passengers is normal on all routes, he added.
Talking to BSS, Barisal-bound passenger Redwan said he is leaving Dhaka much before Eid-holiday to avoid any sufferings.
There is a less pressure of passengers on water routes. So, I’m leaving Dhaka today hoping that I can go home safely, he said.
Meanwhile, Biman Bangladesh Airlines is operating additional flights on the Dhaka-Saidpur and Dhaka-Rajshahi routes from Wednesday on the occasion of Eid. Other private operators are also devoted to provide better service to the passengers to make their Eid journey safe and comfortable.
