Even though a significant portion of holidaymakers already heading home to celebrate Eid with their family members and friends, shopping malls and markets were crowded with shoppers from morning to night.
Eid shoppers, navigating through several shopping malls and markets, expressed that last-minute shopping was not as daunting as anticipated.
Some people left for their native home in the afternoon after making necessary shopping in the morning while many were preparing to go home Saturday.
Besides clothing stores, shops of shoes, punjabis, cosmetics and jewellery also saw heavy footfalls on Friday.
Sellers told BSS that people who are coming to the market now are buying products quickly without wandering around.
On Friday, Mouchak and its surrounding markets, the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex, New Market, Chandni Chawk, Gauchhia, and other big markets were overcrowded. Many salespeople were struggling to cope with the crowds of buyers.
Nonetheless, most of the buyers came to the market for Eid shopping for the second time.

Tomal Ahmed, a resident of the Motijheel area, said he was spotted purchasing Panjabi from a fashion outlet at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in the morning.
“I am a last-minute shopper. I deliberately delayed my shopping to avoid the bustling traffic. Now, with Dhaka is relatively peaceful, I have come to the mall to make my purchases,” he added.
After having an iftar, men and women were seen buying matching accessories such as jewellery, cosmetics, makeup items, and mehendi (henna) from various shops across the city.
“My hands look more beautiful with mehendi art. I adore wearing it for any occasion,” said University of Asia Pacific student Nazmun Nahar Tarin.
Rabeya Akter, a housewife, was busy buying cosmetic items from a shop on the ground floor of Jamuna Future Park. She said, “I only have a few makeup items left to purchase. It is an indispensable part of a woman’s shopping.”
Youngsters were also actively shopping for sunglasses, caps, bangles, nail polish, and more.
Kashfia Tabassum, another shopper, was seen buying bangles from Shezan Point in Farmgate. She said, “My mother has already completed Eid shopping for the family. I am just getting bangles to match my Eid outfit.”
Showroom owners and salespersons were experiencing a surge in customer demands. “We are constantly busy due to the influx of customers. We hope this continues until the night before Eid,” said Babul Hossain, a salesperson of a Brand outlet at Bashundara City.
A festive ambience enveloped the city, with not just the Muslims but people from other religions also partaking in the celebrations.
Eid shoppers have also been seen purchasing attar, prayer mats, surma, and tupis from various shops across the city.
“The price of attar has risen this year, but I will still buy a bottle as it emanates a fragrance of sanctity,” said Kamruzzaman Sohel, a shopper at Baitul Mukarram market.
