Bangladesh envoy presents credentials to S African President

DHAKA, March 29, 2025 (BSS) – Newly appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner to South Africa Shah Ahmed Shafi has presented his Letters of Credence to South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa in a formal ceremony held in Pretoria.

Envoys from 14 countries across five continents, including Japan, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Portugal, Nepal, Mongolia, Panama, and Canada, also presented their credentials during the event on Thursday held at the Presidential Guest House, a foreign ministry’s press release said here today.

In his address, Bangladesh High Commissioner emphasized the importance of strengthening Bangladesh-South Africa relations.

He urged President Ramaphosa to establish a South African High Commission in Bangladesh and extended an invitation for him to visit Dhaka at a mutually convenient time in early 2026.

Focusing on economic cooperation, the High Commissioner underscored Bangladesh’s rapid economic development and the vast potential for trade and investment between the two nations.

He further stressed the need to enhance connectivity and foster closer ties between the people of Bangladesh and South Africa.

Commending South Africa’s significant development, Shafi expressed gratitude to the South African government for its continued support for Palestine and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s full solidarity on the issue.
