CHATTOGRAM, April 2, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus is expected to unveil the foundation stone of much-desired another new bridge at Kalurghat over the river Karnaphuli on May 14 next.
Liberation War Affairs and Relief and Disaster Management Adviser Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Pratik, informed this while talking to media today during his visit at the Boalkhali residence of July Uprising martyr Engineer Omar Faruk to exchange Eid greetings with the family members of the martyr.
The adviser also offered “Doa” and offered “Ziarat” at the grave of Shaheed Engineer Omar Faruk.
The inhabitants of Boalkhali and part of Patiya upazillas, the two outskirts administrative units of port city, have been demanding construction of another new bridge at Kalurghat point over the river Karnaphuli as existing over century old single way vehicle and railway facility has become very dilapidated and riskier.
Adviser Faruk-e-Azam said Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to make his maiden visit his home district -Chattogram since assuming the office of Chief Adviser of the Interim Government to attend as chief guest at the convocation ceremony of Chattogram University on May 14 next.
“The Chief Adviser is likely to unveil the foundation stone of construction work of much-awaited new bridge during his first visit in Chattogram. The demand from the people of Chattogram particularly this north-southern part of river area is very much justified and reasonable” he said.
Conveying sympathy and consolation to the bereaved family members of martyr Omar Faruk, the adviser said, “They never get back their beloved son but we will always stand beside them. It cannot be that there will be no trail if someone or somebody commits crime. How we build a just society if we fail to ensure justice”.
The adviser said how many people will have to sacrifice their lives to establish a just-based society and adding that “ So, we must ensure the proper trial of perpetrators of genocide”.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom, local UNO Md Rahmat Ullah, OC Md Golam Sarwar, local Jamaat-e-Islami leaders-Dr. Khorshedul Alam and Dr. Abu Naser, among others, were present on the occasion.
