DHAKA, April 7, 2025 (BSS) - The World Health Day-2025 was observed today
across the country with the theme "Healthy beginning, hopeful futures".
To mark the day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Directorate
General of Health Services (DGHS) and non-governmental organisations working
in the field of health have chalked out various programmes.
The World Health Day is a global health awareness day being observed every
year on April 7 to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health
Organization (WHO) in order to provide the people with a unique opportunity
to mobilize action around a specific health topic of concern to people all
over the world.
Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus issued a message on the eve of the
day, stressing the need for collective efforts from all levels-- local and
global-- to improve the maternal and child health.
He said, "More action is needed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate
which remains as a major challenge."
"Concerted efforts are needed at all levels, both national and international,
to overcome the challenges," Prof Yunus added.
The chief adviser further said that the Health and Family Welfare Ministry
has been working tirelessly to improve maternal and child health.
"Various action programmes are being implemented by both the government and
private sector. Development partners are working with the government to
improve maternal and child health," he continued.
To sustain the success of the MDGs, the world leaders have set a goal for
implementing SDG by 2030 aimed at ensuring health services for all, the chief
adviser remarked.
The World Health Day-2025 was observed in different districts of the country
in a befitting manner.
On this occasion, processions, rallies and discussion meetings were held in
the district towns with placards, festoons and banners carrying health
awareness messages.
The programmes were organised in the district towns under the initiative of
the District Civil Surgeon's Office.
In Sunamganj, the World Health Day was observed today with the theme "Let
birth be protected, let future be bright".
Marking the day, the District Civil Surgeon's Office and District Health
Rights Forum jointly brought out a colourful rally from the premises of Civil
Surgeon Office. After the rally, a discussion was held at the District EPI
auditorium with Civil Surgeon Dr. Jasim Uddin in the chair.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Sukdev
Saha, Sunamganj Chest Clinic Junior Consultant Dr. Atanu Bhattacharya,
Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Jashobanto
Bhattacharya, President of District Health Rights Forum Mohammad Shahjahan
Chowdhury, its Vice-President Emdadul Haque Shahjahan and Focal Person Faisal
Ahmed.
On the occasion, Dr. Rajesh Singh Sithun, Medical Officer of the Civil
Surgeon's Office, and Dr. Imama Iqbal, Medical Officer of the World Health
Organization's Surveillance and Immunization at the Civil Surgeon's Office,
presented various statistics, including antenatal and postnatal care,
maternal and child mortality rates at the national and local levels, through
a projector.
In Jhenaidah, a procession and discussion were held this morning to mark the
"World Health Day". The procession started in front of the Civil Surgeon's
Office and ended at the same venue after parading different roads of the
town.
Later, a discussion meeting was held in the Civil Surgeon's Office conference
room with District Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman in the chair.
The speakers at the meeting emphasized on increasing health awareness for
safe motherhood and child protection. It is possible to build a healthy
generation by ensuring the birth of a healthy child, they added.
Therefore, there is no alternative to increasing public awareness to make the
various steps of the government in the health sector successful.
The speakers urged the health workers to play a greater role in providing
quality healthcare to the marginalized people in the district.
Jhenaidah 500-bed General Hospital Superintendent Dr. Mostafizur Rahman,
World Health Organization representative Dr. Sathi Saha and Abdur Rahman,
Senior Health Education Officer of the Civil Surgeon's Office addressed the
meeting, among others.
In Habiganj, a procession and discussion meeting were held in the district
marking the day.
The discussion meeting, chaired by Civil Surgeon Dr. Ratdeep Biswas, was
addressed, among others, by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Naima
Khandaker, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mukhlesur Rahman Ujjal, Superintendent of
Habiganj Modern Sadar Hospital Dr. Aminul Haque Sarkar, DPO Mohammad
Abdullah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Habiganj Sadar Police Station Alamgir
Kabir and Dr. Kalim Uddin Sarkar.
In Meherpur, the day was observed in a befitting manner. A procession led by
Civil Surgeon Dr. AKM Abu Sayed started from the Civil Surgeon's Office
premises and ended at the same place after parading the main roads of the
district town.
Later, a discussion meeting was organized at the Civil Surgeon's Office.
In Rangamati, similar programmes like other districts were held to mark the
day. A colorful procession was held in front of the District Chambers of
Commerce and Industries Office building with the auspices of the District
Civil Surgeon's Office today.
A discussion meeting was also held in the conference room of the Civil
Surgeon's Office with Civil Surgeon Dr. Nuen Khisa in the chair.
Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Kajal Talukder addressed the meeting
as the chief guest. Sadar Upazila Health Officer Mong Kye Ching Sagar and
other officials were present at the time.
Besides, the day was observed in Chuadanga, Noakhali, Natore, Moulvibazar and
other districts of the country through similar programmes.
