DHAKA, April 7, 2025 (BSS) - Students, leaders and activists of different political parties and common people staged demonstration across the country throughout the day condemning the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza and demanding an immediate end to Israeli's barbarity.
Thousands of Bangladeshis participated in protest across the country today and called for boycotting Israeli products.
At some places, the protesters formed human chain and some groups held protest processions and rallies, demanding immediate stop of the ongoing genocide and mass destruction in Gaza.
Different political parties, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and National Citizen Party (NCP), brought out processions across the country.
Students and people of different walks of life joined solidarity rallies on campuses of different educational institutes, including Dhaka University, extending utmost support to the Palestinian people against Israel's genocide in Gaza.
Students from different institutions and general people thronged Dhaka University's Raju monument near TSC and joined procession, chanting anti-Israel slogans and demanding justice for genocide in Gaza.
Some student leaders carried out a nationwide 'No Work, No School' campaign for today.
The protesting students joined solidarity and protest programme carrying Palestinian flags, festoons and placards.
DU student Tamim Ahsan said, "Today's rally, organized in solidarity with the global strike called by the Palestine's freedom-seeking people, was attended by students and people from all walks of life to vent out their anger and raise voices against the Israeli brutal aggression in Gaza.
He said, "Israel is continuing aggression in Gaza ignoring the calls of the entire world and killing hundreds of children and women every day. Such demonic act must be stopped immediately. We will also call upon the Bangladesh government to participate in the ongoing non-cooperation movement against Israel."
The protesting students-people also burnt effigy of Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) students and teachers formed a human chain in front of the Central Shaheed Minar at 11:30 am.
Expressing support for the 'Global Strike for Gaza' from the human chain, BUET Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury said Israeli forces have been continuing genocide for a quarter of a century. But the Arab world and other powerful countries are silent.
In Bashundhara Residential Area, students from several private universities-including North South University (NSU), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), and United International University (UIU)-took to the streets around 12 pm and protested the genocide.
In Mirpur-10 intersection, thousands of protesters staged demonstration with placards reading 'Stop genocide in Gaza', 'Save the Innocent', 'Why World's Muslims are Silent?', and 'Free Palestine' and chanted various anti-Israel slogans.
Employees of many privately run institutions also brought out rallies at different points, including Science Lab, Bosila and Uttara areas.
Without any institutional banners, many students from schools, colleges and universities, carrying Palestinian flags, joined the protesters across the capital.
As part of the movement, Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, and several other institutions, including North South University, Independent University, Bangladesh, BRAC University, and East West University, officially announced on Sunday that all academic activities would remain suspended for the day in protest against Israel's indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Gaza.
Bangladesh Medical University also expressed solidarity with the 'Global Strike and Solidarity programme' issuing an urgent notice.
In response to a global strike titled "The world stops for Gaza: no work no school until the genocide stops," Dhaka University students announced on Sunday that all academic activities would be suspended on Monday in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh government has expressed its strongest condemnation of the "Israeli Occupying Forces' continued mass killing and gross violations of human rights in the Gaza Strip", saying it amounted to ethnic cleansing.
The foreign ministry today issued a statement on its Facebook page saying Israel's ongoing military attacks since last month's unilateral breach of the ceasefire had killed scores of Palestinians, mostly women and children as well as blocked the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza leading to a human catastrophe.
