CHANDPUR, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - Health Secretary Md Saidur Rahman today inaugurated a floating hospital for char people of the Meghna basin of the district at the west bank of the Megna River under Hayemchar Upazila here.
The mobile floating hospital named 'Badsha Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz' was inaugurated for ensuring healthcare facilities of the char people.
From primary treatment, diagnosis of diseases to operation would be done free. The people of the area are very happy with the facilities of the hospital here.
The Health Secretary said that there was a scarcity of healthcare facilities in such a remote char areas and for that reason the floating hospital has been established here.
There are some chars at the remote areas encircled by the Meghna River detached from the main land of the district and the people of these chars are deprived of healthcare facilities, Saidur Rahman said.
The hospital run by a non-government organization 'Friendship' has created hopes and aspirations among the people of the area, he added.
Bilkis Begum, a patient of the hospital told this correspondent that earlier they had to go to the district hospital even to the capital defying heavy storm and rain earlier but now they are getting free necessary healthcare facilities including eye operation.
Founder of the NGO 'Friendship' Runa Khan said that some 150 to 200 patients are getting free medicine and treatment facilities here every day. There are 32 staff including seven doctors, she said, adding that this project will ensure healthcare facilities to 32 lakhs people of Hayemchar upazila and the southern part of the region.
Director General of the Health Directorate Prof Dr Md Abu Zafar, Chief Executive Officer of the King Abdullah Humanitarian Foundation Solaiman Abdul Aziz, Deputy Commissioner of Chandpur Mohammad Mohsin Uddin, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chandpur Muhammad Abdur Rakib and a delegation from the Saudi government were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
