RANGPUR, April 14, 2025 (BSS) - Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Showkat Ali today said celebrating Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year, is a part of the Bengali culture, tradition, and identity.
"We must preserve our Bengali heritage to build a prosperous, inclusive Bangladesh, free from all forms of discrimination," he said while visiting the Baishakhi Mela stalls set up by various departments in front of the academic building.
During the visit, he exchanged new year greetings with teachers and students.
Earlier in the day, the Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the vibrant Borshoboron Ananda Shobhajatra from the university's south gate. The festive procession, accompanied by traditional Baishakhi songs and instruments, paraded through key points of the campus.
The celebrations continued with a cultural program at the Media Complex in the afternoon. Special meals were also arranged for students in the university's three residential halls.
To mark Chaitra Sangkranti on April 13, the university hosted a colorful kite festival at the football playground, launching two days of events to welcome Bengali New Year 1432.
