CHATTOGRAM, April 18, 2025 (BSS) - Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq E Azam Bir Pratik today said freedom fighter Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury did never compromise on the issue of independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
“No matter how big the power, he remained vocal. This voice of Zafrullah Chowdhury would keep him immortal among the youth of Bangladesh,” he said.
The adviser was speaking as chief guest at a memorial meeting marking the second death anniversary of freedom fighter Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury at July Smrity Memorial Hall of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) this evening.
Chattogram Citizens’ Forum (CCF), a new social organization of Chattogram, was also inaugurated at the programme.
CCF convener Sheikh Muzaffar Ahmed presided over the event while Women and Children's Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid spoke as the special guest.
Mentioning that Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury had inspired the youth, Farooq E Azam, said the current interim government is working upholding the spirit of Zafrullah Chowdhury.
“There was a very close friendship between Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury. This was not a personal friendship, it was a friendship of the heart,” he said.
The adviser said Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Fazle Hasan Abed and Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury together established a dialysis center in Gonoshasthaya Kendra.
“Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury always inspired us to continue fighting against injustice. The interim government is not doing anything that goes against the people,” he added.
Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid said Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury was very outspoken in terms of his political role, social role and morality.
City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Eye Hospital Managing Trustee Professor Dr. Rabiul Hossain, head of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission and trustee of Gonoshasthaya Kendra Shirin Parvin Haque, chief coordinator of the Gana Sanghati Andolan Jonayed Saki, convener of Bhashani Anusari Parishad Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu and member secretary of Chattogram Press Club Jahidul Karim Kochi, among others, spoke at the event as guests.
