DHAKA, April 19, 2025 (BSS) - The nation would celebrate the 'National Legal Aid Day-2025' in a befitting manner at the district and local levels across the country on April 28 aimed at ensuring the rule of law, fundamental human rights and justice for everyone.
Different programs have been chalked out in Dhaka and elsewhere across the country marking the day.
This year's theme of the Day is "There is no joy in conflict, compromise brother, legal aid is by your side, no worries."
In order to celebrate the 'National Legal Aid Day-2025' with due dignity, the government has requested all the concerned stakeholders to take necessary measures to organize a rally as an additional event to the program.
The government had announced April 28 as 'National Legal Aid Day' in 2013 in an effort to increase public awareness of national legal aid services. Every year, the Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm to promote and expand government legal aid activities.
Like every year, this year too, the government has requested to take necessary measures at the district and local levels to celebrate the Day with due dignity as per the details of the programmes.
The programmes include holding discussions/seminars on its significance, distributing promotional materials or posturing, and give awards to the best panel lawyers.
The District Legal Aid Committee, Upazila Legal Aid Committee, Chowki Court Legal Aid Special Committee and Union Legal Aid Committee will implement these programmes.
It has been asked to ensure the presence of human rights organizations, NGOs, concerned police stations, teachers and students of the law department, and officers and employees of the Upazila administration in the day's program.
The budget has been allocated by the National Legal Aid Services Organization for implementation of the programs. The allocated funds are requested to be spent in accordance with the existing government rules and regulations and the Public Procurement Act, 2006 and the Public Procurement Act, 2008.
Legal services have been provided to 1,195,075 litigants at government expense until March 2025under the National Legal Aid Services Organization.
This service is provided through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 64 district legal aid offices of the country, Dhaka and Chittagong Workers' Legal Aid Cells, and the National Helpline Call Center (toll-free-'16430') under the government legal aid.
