PORT LOUIS, April 19, 2025 (BSS) - The e-passport service was inaugurated in the Bangladesh High Commission at Port Louis in Mauritius here today, according to an official release received here today.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Mauritius Dr Zokey Ahmed was present at the inauguration programme as chief guest while Deputy Project Director (DPD) of the E-passport and automatic border control system project Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Manzur-E-Elahi attended the programme as special guest.

First Secretary (Labour) of the High Commission Md Asaduzzaman gave the welcome address at the function and the DPD E-passport Manzur-E-Elahi briefed about the e-passport facility and highlighted its technology and proper use.

High Commissioner Dr Zokey in his inaugural speech paid deep respect to the martyrs of July-August uprising and remembered the freedom fighters of 1971 who sacrificed their lives in the country’s War of Liberation. Through the inauguration of e-passport facility, the immigration process of the expatriate Bangladeshis here will become easy and their prestige will also increase, he added. 

The latest technology-based E-passport of Bangladesh will enhance the reliability and acceptance to other countries and many countries of the world will be interested to sign visa-free entry agreement with Bangladesh, the High Commissioner said, adding, this will help to increase the standard and prestige of Bangladesh a lot.

After the inauguration, the expatriate Bangladeshis in Mauritius can apply for five-year and 10-year term E-passports.
