Govt pledge-bound to improve law and order further: Home Adviser

CHATTOGRAM, April 23, 2025 (BSS) - Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the government is working to improve further the overall law and order situation in the country, particularly focusing on different challenges in Chattogram Hill Tracks as well as adjacent plain areas. 
 
Referring to the presence and movement of Arakan Army, the adviser said that the entire board areas are well-protected, secured and calm and the government is fully aware of the developments in both hills and areas across the frontiers. 
 
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated these while briefing journalists after exchanging views with the high officials of the administration and law enforcing agencies to review the law and order situation here.  
 
The meeting was held at the local circuit conference room this morning. 
 
Replying to a question, he said the role and operations of joint forces have not been slowed down or decreased in any way, rather the law and order situation has improved significantly due to cooperation from all quarters. 
  
“ We have had details discussion with the high officials concerned on many issues related to the law and order apart from hill cutting and protection of hills and also the steps on how to solve those effectively,” he said . 
 
Highlighting the geographical uniqueness of the Chattogram division, the advisor said, "Fatikchari, Raozan, Rangunia , Boalkhali, Patiya and  Satkania are consisting of both hills and plain lands and we are working to find a solution to the existing problems there keeping in mind the overall perspective of the region.” 
 
About video clip that spread through online platforms recently on celebrating the tribal’s Sangrai festival inside Bangladesh’s boarding areas in Bandarban district by Arakan Army members, the adviser said,   “The Arakan Army has been fighting for a long time.  The way the video came out, you know that TikTok videos can be made in many ways. It's not at all true." 
 
However, he acknowledged some shots of intricacy at Myanmar border and the influence of the Arakan Army saying that efforts are being made to address the issue. 
 
Assuring that the border is not unprotected, Jahangir Alam said, "The entire border is protected and secured". 
 
Regarding the current situation in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, he said, "I had served in the hilly areas in three times. Now the region is comparatively quite and calm if you taken into account the past volatile situation.”  
 
Pointing out the incidents of landmine attacks and inadequate communication systems in the past, the adviser said that now the overall situation there is safer and secured as tourists are frequently able to visit tourist spots in CHT areas like Sajek. 
 
The adviser warned all quarters against spreading false information and smears campaign and called upon the media to reveal true picture of actual happenings, which will ultimately help the government to address the problems. 
 
Regarding the deteriorated law and order situation, including repeated incidents of killing in Raozan upazila of Chattogram district, he said sometimes terrorists take shelter in remote hilly areas after committing crimes and finding out these criminals is difficult too. 
 
“ I have already instructed the senior police officials including Ctg range DIG to identify the culprits and take stern legal action to restore peace in the area” Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said.  
 
 The Home Affairs Adviser sought everyone's cooperation in maintaining law and order and overall development of the country.
