July Manch demands ban on AL

DHAKA, April 24, 2025 (BSS) – July Monch, an organization emerged from the July uprising spirit, today demanded imposition of ban on Awami League as a political party.

The organization arranged a consolidation programme in front of the national museum here at the capital this afternoon demanding cancelling of AL’s registration.

Leaders from different political parties and other non-political organizations took part in the programme.

Mosaddek Ali Ibne Mohammad, one of the coordinators of anti-discrimination student movement, expressing regret said nine months have already been passed since the ouster of Awami League from the country through sacrificing blood. “But still now, we have to struggle to achieve our rights,” he added.

Demanding ban on Awami League, he said, “Our first demand to the interim government was to ban Awami League and ensure justice of the carnage that AL committed. But the government seems like it does not pay any attention to our calls.”

“When the first demand regarding imposing a ban on AL was raised, we were told that BNP does not want to ban Awami League. Again, when BNP refused such claims, some of government advisers started changing their voices giving excuses of international pressure and legal complexities,” Mosaddek said.

He added that students-people will not allow any kind of foreign agenda to be implemented in this country.

Demanding ban on AL, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesman of Inqilab Monch, said some people of the government want to rehabilitate them, branding them ‘good Awami League’.

“Lately, several processions were brought out in the capital with banners of Awami League which is an open threat to our democracy and the movement,” he added.

Speaking at the rally, Martyr Sazzad Hossen Sojol’s mother Sahina Begum, said that her son sacrificed life for the country’s sake. This government came to power with the mandate of July Movement to ensure justice of the killings, she added.

“My son was killed but I didn’t get justice till now. AL leaders killed my son. I want justice and AL to be banned forever in this land,” she added, demanding speedy trial of ousted Sheikh Hasina, and appropriate compensation for the families of the martyrs and the injured.

Golam Rahman, father of martyr Golam Nafiz, said his son was admitted to the first year at Banani Naval College with good results. But he was martyred in a police firing at Farmgate on August 4, he added.

Requesting the Chief Advisor to ensure justice of killings that took AL during the July movement, he said, “We have lost everything. If we do not get justice for the killing of our sons during this government, then whom can we expect to do it? I request the Chief Advisor that if justice is not done during this government, the nation will not forgive you."

“Awami League meetings and processions must be stopped. Those who will rehabilitate the Awami League must be identified and brought to justice. An example must be set so that no other party can behave like this,” he added.

President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad Nurul Haque Nur, assistant secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, presidium member of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Professor Ashraf Ali Akand, joint secretary general of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Maulana Sharafat Hossain, NCP senior joint chief organizer (southern region) Md.
