DHAKA, April 27, 2025 (BSS) - The Executive Committee of the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) has said it would not favour any of its members allegedly involved in a ticket syndicate.

"ATAB's current EC maintains a zero-tolerance policy against ticket syndicates, black marketing, and the stockpiling of tickets without passengers' names," read a press release issued by the ATAB today.

It said Sabuj Munshi, owner of Naria Travels and Tours and a member of ATAB, had received a "show cause" notice from a high-powered government investigation committee.

"In the 6th meeting of the ATAB Executive Committee held today, April 26, 2025, it was unanimously decided to relieve Sabuj Munshi from the Executive Committee, all standing committees, and any other responsibilities within ATAB," read the press release.

The government investigation committee had asked Munshi to explain why his license should not be revoked due to allegations of ticket syndication, booking of unnamed tickets, stockpiling, creating artificial shortages, and selling tickets at inflated prices.

An investigation is currently ongoing against him, said the release.

As a member of the ATAB Executive Committee, Sabuj Munshi sought assistance from the Committee's President, Secretary General, and other members to be relieved from these allegations.

However, because of the Executive Committee's zero-tolerance stance against unethical practices, he was informed that he would receive no assistance, now or in the future.

"Out of anger and frustration, Sabuj Munshi has been spreading fabricated, misleading propaganda and lies against the ATAB Executive Committee on social media and in newspapers," said press release.

It said that the current ATAB committee is taking a strong stance against the high prices of airline tickets and the syndicate of unnamed block tickets.

The EC committee is fully cooperating with the government in controlling ticket prices and eliminating syndicates, the release added.
