DNCC authority urges city dwellers not to throw garbage haphazardly

DHAKA, April 27, 2025(BSS)  - Authorities of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today urged all not to throw garbage and wastages haphazardly aimed at keeping the mega city clean and livable.

“I urge all of you not to throw wastages indiscriminately…You please keep your society clean,” the DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz said while inaugurating the construction work of road, drain and footpath at Polashnagar area under Mirpur section-11 here this noon.

The DNCC will construct 11-kilometer road, 35-kilometer drain and 13-kilometer footpath at ward number 2,3,4 and 5 under DNCC.

Mentioning differences between the cities of the developed world and the cities of our country, he said there is no garbage on the roads of the developed countries but in Bangladesh the picture is totally opposite as you will find huge wastage on the roads of our cities.

The DNCC Administrator said that the conservancy staffs of the city corporation used to work from night to 8:00 am everyday to keep the city clean.

“They (conservancy staffs) used to collect eight lakh tones of garbage from both the city corporations everyday. The city dwellers should leave their wastages to a particular place so that the corporations staffs could collect it easily,” he said.

Calling upon the house owners of the city to create rooftop gardens, the DNCC Administrator said that he would consider to provide incentives from the city corporation for the creation of such garders.

He urged the affluent people of the city to take initiative to provide pure drinking water to the poor and marginal people who have no capacity to buy mineral water.

He requested them to keep some water at suitable places so that the birds, dogs, cats and animals can take water during this heat wave.

Regarding plying of rickshaws on the city streets, he called upon all to provide information of illegal rickshaw garage saying that the corporation would not allow the battery run auto-rickshaws to ply on the main roads.

In this connection, he said the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been working on a particular design of auto-rickshaw and after completion of it the auto-rickshaw drivers will be given license after imparting proper training.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayeed Md Kamruzzaman, its Chief Engineer Brig. Gen. Md Moin Uddin, Additional Chief Engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, Zonal Executive Officer Md Ziaur Rahman, Superintendant Engineer Khandkar Mahbub Alam, Convener of Dhaka City North BNP Aminul Haque and President of Polashnagar House Owners Association Md Anisur Rahman, were present, among others.
