DHAKA, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - Biplobi Workers Party today held a meeting with the National Consensus Commission to discuss the reform proposals and recommendations put forward by the five reform commissions.

The meeting took place at the LD Hall of the National Parliament building in the capital, marking the party’s formal engagement as the 21st political party to join such discussions.

Chaired by Commission's Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, the meeting was attended by commission members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Safar Raj Hossain, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.

A 10-member delegation from the Biplobi Workers Party, led by its General Secretary Saiful Haque, include Bahnishikha Jamali, Akbar Khan, Abu Hasan Tipu, Ansar Ali Dulal, Mir Mofazzal Hossain Mushtaq, Mahmud Hossain, Rashida Begum, Saiful Islam, and Sheikh Mohammad Shimul.

During the dialogue, the Biplobi Workers Party emphasized its vision for a government and state structure that is bound by accountability and not arbitrary in nature.

General Secretary Saiful Haque said, “We seek a state, society, and constitution in which no one is deprived due to religious or social beliefs.”

He also stressed the importance of protecting voting rights of people and ensuring the student and people's pro-democracy movement yields tangible outcomes.

Professor Ali Riaz said the Commission aims to help establish a democratic system inspired by the public uprisings in July and August, and to build an inclusive constitutional and social framework free from discrimination.

On March 27, National Consensus Commission circulated a spreadsheet of 166 key recommendations made by the five reform commissions to 39 political parties.

The Biplobi Workers Party agreed fully with 122 of those, expressed partial agreement with 21, and disagreed with 23 — which were the main topics of today’s discussion.
Key debated issues included whether the tenure of the government, head of state, and parliament should be five or four years, whether the party chief and prime minister should be the same person, the possibility of a bicameral parliament, candidate age requirements for MPs, and election system reforms.

The reform proposals come from five commissions focused on constitutional reform, public administration, electoral reform, judicial reform, and anti-corruption.

So far, the Commission has received responses from 35 political parties, and 21 parties, including the Biplobi Workers Party, have participated in direct dialogue.
